Risk of Loss of Principal

  • When the exchange rate to convert a foreign currency to Yen fluctuates due to market conditions, there rises a risk of Loss of Principal due to an exchange-rate loss. The amount you receive at maturity, when its value is calculated in Yen, may become lower than the principal you originally deposited. Regardless of the condition of foreign exchange rate fluctuations, there is a risk of Loss of Principal because the TTB rate applied for converting a foreign currency back to Yen includes the foreign exchange commission as described below.

Commissions

  • Foreign Exchange Commission : The exchange rate at which Yen is converted to a foreign currency (TTS rate) and the exchange rate at which a foreign currency is converted to Yen (TTB rate) each includes the foreign exchange commission prescribed by Citibank (e.g., 1 yen for conversion to or from 1 foreign currency; 2 yen for conversion to and from 1 foreign currency).
  • Foreign Currency Cash Handling Charge : When you deposit or withdraw US dollar and Euro in cash, the Foreign Currency Cash Handling Charge (2 Yen per US dollar/3 Yen per Euro) and will be applied. Please note that no US dollar and Euro coins are accepted.

Other

  • For foreign currency time deposit, no withdrawals are allowed before maturity, including those of deposits that have rolledover automatically. However, Step Up Time Deposit can be cancelled after the first 6 months from the date of deposit.
  • Foreign currency deposits are not covered by any deposit insurance.
  • Deposit to emerging-market countries' currencies has relatively higher risks than those of the developed countries.
