How to use overseas CDs/ATMs

You can use CDs/ATMs overseas easily by following a few simple steps. Some typical examples of their use are shown below. Check the onscreen instructions or the instructions printed on the machine body before beginning operation.

*When you withdraw cash from CD or ATM outside Japan, you will be charged overseas ATM service charge of 210 yen (incl. tax) per withdrawal when using your Banking Card and US$2.00 per withdrawal when using Gaika Cash Card.
*Make sure no one is looking over your shoulder trying to read your PIN when you use an ATM, and check to make sure there is no camera or other suspicious device set up to record your PIN entry activity. If your card appears to have been withheld by an ATM, it may actually have been stolen. If someone standing nearby suggests that you reenter your PIN or use a different card, ignore the suggestion. The person may be planning to look over your shoulder to observe the number you enter. Please notify CitiPhone Banking promptly of any suspicious or unusual circumstances in the vicinity of an ATM.

Entering a CD/ATM booth

Entering a CD/ATM booth

If the CD/ATM is located in a locked booth or room, you can unlock the door by inserting your Banking Card into a slot or groove on the door, or by sliding it along the groove. Under normal circumstances, you are not required to enter your PIN to gain access to an ATM lobby.

*If you encounter a situation in which your PIN is required to gain access, be extremely careful when entering your PIN.

Inserting your card

There are 5 main ways of inserting a card, as shown below. Follow the diagram on the machine you plan to use.

A. The card is inserted face up, as in Japan.
B. The card is inserted upside down with the magnetic strip on the left.
C. The card is held with its face towards you, inserted in the slot from above and then extracted immediately.
D. The card is positioned face up, inserted in a slot parallel to the ground and then extracted immediately.
E. The edge of the card with the magnetic strip is swiped through the groove from top to bottom.

Some machines have a cover over the operation panel that opens automatically when you insert your card.

Some machines give you the option of choosing the display language.

Once a cash card has been inserted into the machine, some overseas CDs/ATMs continue allowing transaction until you confirm the end of transaction on the screen.
Failure to confirm the end of transaction may enable another person to withdraw cash from your account even if you have taken your cash card back.
